About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Crime & Regulatory Assistant Lawyer to join our team at Lifelancer, a talent-hiring platform in Life Sciences, Pharma and IT. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting our lead lawyers with regulatory cases, motor crime, and inquest work.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law, specifically in crime and regulatory matters, and excellent communication skills. You will work closely with our team to provide high-quality legal solutions to complex problems, build client relationships, and deliver training and mentoring services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze prosecution evidence, considering implications for clients;
  • Drafting statements of insured witnesses;
  • Reviewing client evidence, obtaining, collating, indexing, cross-referencing with own statements and Prosecutions statements, summarizing evidence for lead file handlers;
  • Liaising with Courts, Coroners Office, CQC/Police/HSE or relevant regulators;
  • Liaising with experts - instructing own experts, summarizing expert evidence, serving reports;
  • Serving Defence case statements, sentencing bundles, and mitigation bundles;
  • Drafting written submissions, following liaison with lay clients/corporate clients;
  • Liaising with Insured re Prosecutions case and disclosure required;
  • Reviewing transcripts of evidence;
  • Organizing and attending conferences meetings, drafting notes of discussion, and following agreed strategy following lead lawyers' strategy;
  • Attendance/representation at interview under cautions;
  • Attendance behind Counsel for trials inquests - drafting notes of evidence, outcome, and sentencing;
  • Arranging meetings, conferences, site visits, expert appointments;
  • Chasing for transcripts and disclosure, collating evidence;
  • Reviewing medical records, post-mortem reports, and CCTV footage;
  • Attending site, taking photos, and drafting basic statements;
  • Research into relevant HSE guidelines;
  • Research into Insureds - corporate structure, procedures, risk assessments, documents;
  • Collating witness availability;
  • Preparing bundles for hearings, serving bundles;
  • To ensure compliance with SRA standards regulations.

Requirements:

  • A qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 1 year PQE, with crime, regulatory, or care home inquest experience;
  • An ability to prioritize workload;
  • Ability to pay attention to detail;
  • Ability to work with case management systems;
  • The personal skills to deal with insureds in a sensitive manner given the context within which they find themselves;
  • Good telephone and communication skills with people at all levels inside and outside the business;
  • Calm under pressure;
  • Self-confidence, with good literacy and IT skills;
  • Good team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met;
  • Ability to work effectively within the Keoghs Shared Values framework.

Salary Range: £40,000 - £60,000 per annum
