Job Description

Role Summary:

The Early Years Lead Practitioner will be responsible for overseeing the quality of early education for children in the nursery, ensuring that they receive a world-class learning experience. This role will focus on promoting teaching and learning to ensure that children progress in their development and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality inclusive early education, responsive to the needs of children and their families.
  • Lead practice within the classroom, establishing a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment.
  • Monitor systems of assessment, recording, and reporting on children's progress.
  • Ensure that all practitioners understand the principles and content of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Develop high expectations of all children and demonstrate commitment to ensuring they can achieve their full potential.
  • Influence and shape the policies and practices of the setting, sharing collective responsibility for their implementation.
  • Ensure that service delivery is maintained within current legislative requirements.
  • Work in partnership with parents, carers, and other family members to share information about children's well-being, development, and learning.
  • Contribute to the work of a multi-professional team, coordinating and implementing agreed programs and interventions.
  • Take responsibility for staff professional development, role-modeling best practice and providing mentoring support.
  • Conduct termly observations of practice and report findings to the Head.
  • Conduct termly monitoring of learning records and provide feedback to practitioners.

Requirements:

  • A dynamic leader with previous experience of leadership in Early Years settings.
  • An experienced, highly knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Early Years practitioner.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Hold EYTS or a graduate early years' qualification.
  • Extensive experience of working with young children, particularly 2-5 year olds.
  • Experience of leading teams in delivering high-quality early education.
  • Experience of working in partnership with other agencies and organizations.

Knowledge and Understanding:

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the EYFS, Ofsted Education Inspection Framework, and relevant current legislation.
  • A good understanding of the developmental needs of young children, 2 to 5 year olds.
  • A good understanding of what constitutes a quality early education environment.
  • An up-to-date knowledge and understanding of safeguarding requirements and procedures.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to design and develop early education environments and programs.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to vary and structure the curriculum according to children's needs.
  • Good observational skills and the experience to support staff in knowing when and how best to intervene to support children's learning.
