Job Title: Junior Buyer/Expediter

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Junior Buyer/Expediter to join our team at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in the United Kingdom.

Job Summary:

The Junior Buyer/Expediter will be responsible for managing assigned pre-purchase enquiries from obtaining supplier quotations through to purchase order and delivery to the end user. This role will work closely with colleagues within the IITA Supply Chain function in the UK and Africa.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate and clear records to ensure activity tracking and demonstrate methodology.
  • Work collaboratively with IITA colleagues to ensure requirements for all areas are met in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ensure on-time delivery, challenge non-compliance in areas of responsibility, and monitor purchase order progress.
  • Track daily/weekly supplier deliveries to IITA shippers in the UK or USA or direct from the country of origin to the point of delivery.
  • Identify alternative suppliers for engineering/laboratory and equipment/spares requirements where OEM or suppliers are not identified.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, statistics, typing, and administration skills.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Work experience in a purchasing department would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to grow with the organization.
  • Enthusiastic, pro-active, dedicated, and hard-working.
