About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Veolia Water Technologies UK. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of water processing plants, working closely with clients and internal design engineers to ensure compliance and integration of mechanical elements into the overall plant design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage workloads to achieve design deliverables required of projects and tenders
  • Liaise with clients and internal design engineers to ensure compliance and integration of mechanical elements
  • Generate requirements for equipment or services to be purchased and define key requirements through equipment specifications
  • Work with CAD designers and other design engineers to create and evolve P+ID, General Arrangement, and detailed drawings to define plant design
  • Develop piping and equipment layouts, prepare and maintain schedules that define plant design, and contribute to the HAZOP process
  • Communicate with site managers and commissioning managers during relevant project stages, evaluate quotations, and develop to a point of technical compliance
  • Review supply-chain design documentation and integrate into the wider plant design, undertake Design Risk Assessment, and capture outcomes
Requirements
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation to drive mechanical design processes to meet required project deliverables
  • Formal education in Mechanical Engineering (Apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or BEng/MEng Degree) combined with a proven track record of 7+ years of experience in the municipal or industrial wastewater sectors
  • Knowledge and experience of equipment and technologies used commonly in the water treatment industry, including product development methodologies
  • Strong supervisory and liaison skills between key technical stakeholders and customers
  • Able to visit customer sites to assist with performance issues and commissioning
  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication techniques, standards, and procedures
  • Capable of specifying and coordinating work allocated to local teams and remotely between globally extended teams
  • Capable of performing mechanical calculations such as hydraulic calcs and FEA
  • Excellent level of experience and competence in interpretation and understanding of PFDs and P&IDs
  • Proficient in Autodesk mechanical modeling software and data management tools such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Vault
  • Able to compose mechanical specifications and equipment schedules
  • Fluent with software like Word/Google Docs, Excel/Google Sheets
  • High attention to detail, creative, and proactive
  • Articulate, able to work to tight deadlines
  • Full driving license
