Job Title: Artificial Intelligence Scientist

Job Purpose:

To make a significant contribution to the advancement of Geospatial Data Science at the University of Glasgow, the researcher will work with Professor Ana Basiri and the Geospatial Data Science Group.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Develop innovative GeoAI solutions by integrating geospatial data with OpenAI's and/or similar API offerings to automate data processing, generate insights, and develop AI-driven geospatial applications.
  2. Study and develop applications using existing Large Language Models through fine-tuning, information retrieval, and integration into wider software projects.
  3. Explore and apply relevant techniques including prompt engineering, data ingest and transformation techniques.
  4. Collaborate with the Geospatial Data Science Team at the University of Glasgow and external partners.
  5. Maintain and enhance research profile and reputation, contributing to publications in high-profile journals and gathering indicators of esteem.
  6. Presentation of work at international and national conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  7. Support FAIR principles by making data and code repositories available and reproducible.
  8. Engage in personal and professional development to enhance specialist and transferable skills.

Requirements:

Essential:

  1. PhD in a relevant academic/research discipline, with experience in personal development in computer science or similar disciplines.
  2. Extensive knowledge of AI foundations, including prompt engineering, data ingest and transformation techniques, and fine-tuning models.
  3. Deep understanding of OpenAI's and/or similar API offerings and their application in geospatial data tasks.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in collaborating with international academic environments of high quality.
  2. Support of less experienced team members.
