About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Anticoagulant/VTE Specialist Nurse to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing safe and effective care to patients with anticoagulant and venous thromboembolic conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and their medical history to determine suitability for anticoagulants.
  • Provide specialist counselling and information for patients/carers in hospital and community settings.
  • Undertake testing and analysis of blood results within the service, prescribe and calculate dosage of anticoagulant treatment within patient-specific directives and national guidelines.
  • Phlebotomy skills.
  • Non-Medical Prescriber or working towards.
  • Participate in service improvement.

Person Specification
  • 1st Level Registered Nurse (relevant branch).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development since registration.
  • Degree or working towards.
  • Previous experience of acute nursing.
  • Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting.
  • Specialist nursing skills relevant to the unit.
  • Good communication skills.
  • IT skills.
  • Up-to-date clinical nursing knowledge relevant to the specialty.
  • Able to travel across Trust sites as required.
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role.
