Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead to join our team in Leamington Spa. This is a permanent position that offers a unique blend of on-site and remote work. As a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for designing and prototyping propulsion and actuation systems for sustainable technologies.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing transmission systems in various sectors, including automotive, aerospace, off-highway, commercial vehicle, defence, clean energy, and marine. You will also possess high levels of competency in design and CAE analysis of rotating systems, as well as expertise in applying GD&T for prototype and production manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical work packages and whole projects to meet or exceed as-sold margins
  • Propose innovative R&D projects to the Chief Technical Officer (CTO)
  • Check and approve precision 2D manufacturing drawings to relevant standards
  • Conduct business development activities within the Mechanical Engineering function to propose scope of work, timing, resource, and cost estimates inline with customer RFQs
  • Utilise and oversee state-of-the-art simulation techniques and design tools to design, develop, and prototype transmission, driveline, and actuation systems
  • Develop new methods to solve industry problems, generating market-leading solutions
  • Lead by example, implementing DSD's technical processes to ensure high-quality execution when developing others in standards of drawings and technical reporting
  • Manage multi-person/cross-functional projects to achieve budgeted margin and maintain excellent relationships with customers, while being accountable to the operations board for outcome
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships on behalf of the function with key account responsibilities to maintain and build revenue streams in your sector
  • Take an active role in the professional development of others within the function
  • Participate in the Mechanical Engineering function's quality system, generating and developing technical and procedural capabilities, and ensuring continuous development
  • Market DSD through technical and commercial forums, conferences, and white papers
  • Manage challenging proposals and quotes that define the strategy of the project while mitigating technical and commercial risks

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in developing different types of transmission systems in at least two main sectors: automotive, aerospace, off-highway, commercial vehicle, defence, clean energy, and/or marine
  • High levels of competency in design and CAE analysis of rotating systems
  • Adept in applying appropriate GD&T for prototype and production manufacturing processes for a wide range of components and materials
  • Evidence of successfully executing system integration projects
  • Ability to understand, collate, and own the creation of compelling system propositions of engineering activities/scope outside the Mechanical Engineering domain, e.g., hydraulics, development, test, controls electrified powertrain components
  • Solved challenging problems by developing new capabilities or techniques
  • Understanding of market trends and challenges, and applications of existing technology within the industry
  • Track record of successfully applying non-standard technical solutions and coaching others to achieve the same
  • Developed a strong technical reputation and relationship with customers and suppliers
  • Mentored others in their technical development and the quality and value of their output
  • Successfully managed large, multi-person and multi-discipline projects through their complete development cycle
  • High level of expertise or appreciation in some of the key software packages within drivetrain engineering (SMT MASTA, Romax, Creo, UGNX, Catia, Amesim, Recurdyn, Matlab, Altair, and Ansys packages)
  • Generated and managed commercial opportunities to a successful conclusion
  • Awareness of the commercial approach of a consultancy business will be advantageous
