About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our nuclear and clean energy team, you will play a critical role in delivering projects that contribute to the UK's net zero target by 2050.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and substantiate mechanical equipment and systems for nuclear and clean energy projects.
- Lead technical teams to deliver complex engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to capture requirements and deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers.
Requirements
- Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or other relevant qualification).
- Experience in carrying out design or substantiation for new mechanical equipment or existing plant.
- Experience in writing accurate, detailed, and concise technical reports.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to work in a collaborative and supportive office/site environment.
- Chartered status with a relevant professional institute (or approaching application for registration).
Desirable Skills
- Experience in design and substantiation of mechanical handling systems using design codes such as BS EN13001, BS 2573 or ASME B30.
- Experience in design and substantiation of bespoke remotely operated equipment for inspection or maintenance of plant.
- Experience in design and substantiation of mechanical structures, platforms, rigs, heat shields, etc.
- Experience in structural integrity assessment of mechanical equipment.
- CE / UKCA marking of machinery and production of technical file documents.
- Design for Manufacture.
- Systematic identification and mitigation of hazards.
- Authoring engineering calculations using software such as Mathcad.
- Producing 3D models and engineering drawings using software such as Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Finite Element Analysis using software such as Abaqus.
- Piping and pressure vessel design and stress analysis using design codes such as ASME BPVC Section III, RCC-M, ASME B31.1, BS EN 13480 and BS EN13445.
- Working in a safety critical and heavily regulated environment.
