As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Atomic Physics at Durham University, you will be working within the UK Quantum Technology Research Hub in Sensing, Imaging and Timing (QuSIT). This interdisciplinary hub aims to deliver transformative advancements across sectors including infrastructure, transportation, and security. Your role will involve experimental research on the development of Rydberg-atom based sensors for security and radar applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality academic research and publish papers in top-ranked journals.
  • Present research findings at conferences and workshops, and communicate complex information to specialists and the wider academic community.
  • Collaborate with industrial partners and contribute to the planning of research projects.
  • Develop and lead new research ideas and adapt existing protocols under the direction of the Principal Investigator or Grant-holder.

The successful candidate will join a thriving research team and work closely with other academics to develop research proposals and designs. You will have the opportunity to engage with the QuSIT Hub and attend its activities. A competitive salary of £35,000 - £45,000 per annum, depending on experience, is offered. The university provides a range of benefits, including 30 days annual leave, a generous pension scheme, and access to excellent sport and gym facilities.
