Job Description

Role Overview

Empowering Learning is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Sports and Learning Mentor to join our team at a special needs school in the Gainsborough area. As a Sports and Learning Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and inspiring them to learn through sports.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work closely with pupils who present with challenging behaviour, providing individualized support and guidance to help them overcome their difficulties.
  • Lead sports sessions at break and lunchtimes, promoting physical activity and teamwork among pupils.
  • Provide 1:1 support to children in class, helping them to develop their academic and social skills.
  • Use sports as a tool to mentor children, helping them to build confidence and self-esteem.
  • De-escalate situations where children have shown extreme behaviours, using your expertise to calm and reassure them.
  • Lead academic interventions with children working below age expected levels, helping them to catch up with their peers.
  • Assist the class teacher with the setup of lessons, ensuring that the learning environment is conducive to pupil success.
  • Liaise with the class teacher and school SENCO around progress of the pupils, ensuring that their needs are met and their progress is tracked.

Requirements

  • Holds a TA qualification or relevant degree.
  • Holds at least one sports-based qualification.
  • Has had either TeamTeach training or MAPA Training (desirable but not essential).
  • Previously supported children with challenging behaviours.
  • Has an understanding of supporting SEN pupils.
  • Can inspire pupils to reach their full potential.
