Job Overview
This is a fixed-term/secondment position to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist works across BCUHB within a clinical specialty, acting in various roles, including practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher, leader, and care coordinator/case manager. The role is focused on clinical excellence and improved health outcomes.
Clinical Nurse Specialists are recognized internationally as expert practitioners, with in-depth knowledge of a specialty that expands the boundaries of nursing practice and implements evidence-based practice and clinical research.
The role is central to clinical practice, but to influence and improve nursing practice, it must be underpinned by the competencies outlined in the job description. Due to the diversity of the CNS role, key accountabilities and key performance indicators will vary according to patient/population and service needs.
This position includes a clinical workload.
Main Duties of the Job- Provide expert nursing knowledge in the management of patient care within a defined area of specialty practice, working with the patient, family, or other health professionals to provide timely nursing care to optimize outcomes.
- Use advanced health assessment skills in the assessment of patients and critique own practice to maintain clinical competence.
- Prescribe advanced evidence-based nursing therapeutics, pharmacological/non-pharmacological interventions, diagnostic measures, equipment, procedures, and treatments to meet the needs of patients, families, and groups, in accordance with professional preparation, institutional policies, and scope of practice.
- Role model expert evidence-based clinical practice, be seen as highly effective, progressive, and knowledgeable.
- Guide and support others in the specialty in their assessment, clinical decision-making, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of care.
- Provide leadership, role model, and guide others in nursing practice.
- Network nationally and internationally to identify and implement nursing advances and changes in practice.
- Identify opportunities for general health/wellness education and smoking cessation.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
