Senior Test Technician – Optical Components

G&H, a world leader in optical designing, testing, and manufacturing, seeks a skilled Senior Test Technician to join its team in Torquay, Devon. As experts in the technology of light, G&H collaborates with customers to provide optical systems, assemblies, and components for demanding applications.

Key Responsibilities

Perform detailed testing of optical components, including lasers, photodiodes, modulators, and optical amplifiers, using advanced testing equipment.

Conduct fibre-optic testing, including insertion loss and polarisation mode dispersion.

Data Analysis and Reporting

Analyse test data to identify trends, inconsistencies, and potential issues.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to optical component performance, including alignment issues, signal degradation, and connector problems.

Requirements

An Associate's or bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.

Proficiency in using optical testing equipment such as OTDRs, optical spectrum analysers, and power meters.

Experience with data analysis software and report generation.

  • Certification in fibre-optic testing (e.g., FOA CFOT)
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ITU-T, IEEE, and Telcordia
  • Experience with automated testing systems
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality control principles
