Specialist Mentor Role

Randstad Student Support is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist Mentor to work with autistic students at CU Scarborough University.

This is a hybrid role that requires flexibility to offer both in-person and online sessions to meet student preferences. As a Specialist Mentor, you will be a trusted advisor for students, assisting them throughout the academic year.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students in understanding academic requirements
  • Developing time management and organizational skills
  • Breaking down tasks to meet deadlines
  • Achieving a balance between study and daily living
  • Managing anxiety, stress, or low mood
  • Preparing for new experiences
  • Building confidence and strengths to become an independent learner

You will work closely with students on a 1-2-1 basis, addressing their individual needs and concerns in a timely manner. It is essential to maintain confidentiality and professionalism throughout your role.

To be successful in this position, you must have the correct qualifications and training. You should be qualified to an undergraduate degree level (minimum level 6) and have extensive training in adult autism. This may include:

  • 6 National Autistic Society Modules (non-medical helper package)
  • The Optimum Training Course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education

Desirable skills include experience working with autistic clients, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to identify ways to help students build on their learning strengths.
