About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Indirect Tax Manager to join our team at American Express. As a key member of our tax function, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations across the EMEA region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine the full indirect tax implications of new initiatives and provide effective tax cost management advice.
  • Communicate tax implications to stakeholders and act as a subject matter expert for business and compliance process changes.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the company's existing indirect tax positions and articulate them to tax authorities.
  • Assist in the management of tax authority audits and disputes, including litigation and third-party relationships.
  • Monitor VAT landscape changes and determine the impact on the company's indirect tax positions.
  • Support the Indirect Tax Director in identifying VAT risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to indirect tax lobbying and networking events.
  • Be the day-to-day Indirect Tax Subject Matter Expert on EMEA regulatory projects.
  • Ensure open communication channels with the Compliance team.
  • Work with corporate tax and transfer pricing teams to mitigate tax risks.
  • Collaborate with Tax Accounting and local finance teams to ensure VAT exposures are properly accounted for.
Requirements
  • Significant years of high-quality indirect tax experience in a reputable professional environment or large multinational corporate environment.
  • Proven multi-jurisdictional understanding of UK and EU indirect tax rules and emerging legislation across the EMEA region.
  • A relevant professional qualification (i.e., accounting, tax, or legal).
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and refine risk scenarios.
  • Clear communication skills, including the ability to distill and explain technical issues to a diverse audience.
  • Proven relationship builder across functions, levels, and world zones.
