Research Economist - Rural and Regional Development

SRUC (Scotland's Rural College) is a leading higher education institute dedicated to producing specialist research and delivering high-quality education in the rural sector. An organisation unique in Scotland and one of the largest of its kind in Europe, SRUC aims to lead the way in innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors. Our Land Economy and Environment Research Group in Edinburgh is recruiting a Research Economist to focus on rural and regional development, exploring low carbon rural economy, regional economic development, and socio-economic trends.

The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working on research projects for the Scottish Government, bidding for contracts, and engaging in Knowledge Exchange through the Rural Policy Centre. A PhD and several years of research experience are required. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate an ability to win research funding and present information to various audiences.

Duties will include designing and developing research, bidding for contracts, engaging in Knowledge Exchange, and working within a multidisciplinary team. The new post-holder will complement the strong and dynamic research skill-set within the team, bringing specific skills in spatial econometrics and spatial data analysis.
