Financial Accountant Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team at Phoenix Learning & Care Group. As a key member of our finance team, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial future of our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Finance with financial planning, analysis, and forecasting activities.
  • Assist in managing external stakeholder reporting, including covenant compliance, shareholder reports, and investment analysis.
  • Help with month-end financial reporting and the preparation of departmental management accounts, with a focus on the education division.
  • Analyse operational costs and collaborate with service units to benchmark performance and develop reporting mechanisms.
  • Provide financial data analysis and reporting to the Head of Finance and CFO to support future projects and growth initiatives.
  • Act as a key lead alongside the Head of Finance in managing the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors, overseeing internal information, and supporting the internal audit function to review and improve financial controls, processes, and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Recognised accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent), knowledge and understanding of financial systems, processes and standards.
  • Strong financial and commercial analysis skills and experience, with a keen eye for process improvement and cost-saving changes.
  • Strong IT skills – working understanding of Microsoft packages like Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and ideally Xero.
  • Great communication and relationship-building skills, with outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
  • A full driving licence - You may need to do some travel.
