Job Title: Consultant Cardiologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Cardiologist to join our team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our cardiothoracic surgery services.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Cardiologist to work in a dynamic and supportive environment. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in on-call cardiothoracic surgery and heart/lung transplantation on-call rotas, which operate on a 1 in 4 basis.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the development of our cardiothoracic surgery services
  • Participate in on-call cardiothoracic surgery and heart/lung transplantation on-call rotas
  • Contribute to the development of our cardiothoracic surgery services and participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and medical students
  • Participate in teaching and training activities

Person Specification
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or CESR or European Community Rights
  • An appropriate higher Cardiothoracic Specialist Surgical Qualification
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in cardiac for emergency and elective situations
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
  • Ability to manage and lead a surgical firm
  • Experience of teaching at postgraduate level
  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
  • Experience of audit management
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
  • Peer reviewed publications
  • Ability to work in a team and engage in innovation
  • Good interpersonal skills, enquiring critical approach to work, caring attitude to patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other agencies
  • Committed to continuing medical education
  • Subspecialist interest in Aortovascular Surgery & Trauma
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
