Mechanical Systems Architect

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Systems Architect to join our team at Certain Advantage. This exciting role involves gathering and managing the missile mechanical architecture requirements to achieve missile performance, on time and on cost, and overall layout vs compliance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of the missile mechanical architecture requirements and will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, including static and dynamic analysis, design for environment, and thermal management.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in mechanical engineering and at least 10 years of experience in a similar role. They will also have strong leadership skills, the ability to technically manage internal and sub-contract activities, and good knowledge of broader engineering disciplines, including aerodynamics, testability, and production.
The role will involve working closely with the customer to ensure their expectations are met throughout the development process. The successful candidate will also be responsible for producing statements of work and plans for activities within their sphere of responsibility, as well as direct technical supervision of engineers within their team.
The Mechanical Systems Architect will be responsible for establishing the Missile Airframe Task Requirements Specification (TRS) to ensure a structured and coherent mechanical response to the overall Missile TRS. They will also manage the mechanical interface with the launcher, manage mechanical and thermal interfaces across the missile, and define the optimum mechanical architecture for all variants of the missile.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing proving logic and managing the generation of compliance evidence towards Certificates of Design, as well as experience across the full Product Life Cycle. They will also have strong interpersonal and well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal, and be willing to travel within the UK and Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish the Missile Airframe Task Requirements Specification (TRS)
- Manage the mechanical interface with the launcher
- Manage mechanical and thermal interfaces across the missile
- Define the optimum mechanical architecture for all variants of the missile
- Implement GMA Policies to ensure Modularity and Reuse objectives are achieved
- Develop the overall proving logic for the validation of the Airframe
- Ensure mechanical compliance to the Airframe TRS for missile certificate of design
- Interface with and manage customer expectations throughout the development process
- Produce Statements of Work and plans for activities within their sphere of responsibility
- Direct technical supervision of engineers within their team
Requirements:
- Educated to degree level with 10 years' experience or an equivalent qualification
- Ability to technically manage internal and sub-contract activities
- Strong leadership skills, able to establish a clear engineering vision
- Good knowledge and experience of mechanical design, including static and dynamic analysis, design for environment, and thermal management
- Good understanding of broader engineering disciplines, including aerodynamics, testability, and production
- Experience developing proving logic and managing the generation of compliance evidence towards Certificates of Design
- Experience across the full Product Life Cycle
- Ability to influence senior managers and other stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal and well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal
- Willingness to travel within the UK and Europe
