This exciting opportunity allows you to work in a first-class vascular and endovascular service, forming an integral part of vascular surgical services for the Gloucestershire and Swindon Vascular Network.

The appointee will be based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, with the hub and two spokes at Cheltenham General Hospital and the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, serving a population of around 1 million.

A wide variety of vascular conditions are treated by the service, including aortic aneurysm surgery, carotid surgery, arterial bypass and reconstructive surgery, and venous intervention.

The post holders will benefit from a substantial existing practice in:

  1. Aortic aneurysm surgery (both EVAR and open)
  2. Carotid surgery
  3. Arterial bypass and reconstructive surgery
  4. Venous intervention (including open surgery, foam sclerotherapy, endothermal ablation, and acute and chronic deep venous intervention)

The service is well supported by nearby Tertiary Vascular Units for supra-renal and thoracic aortic work.

The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large organisation providing acute services from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester and Cheltenham General Hospital to a population of 652,475 in Gloucestershire, as well as caring for patients from surrounding counties and beyond.

The Vascular Network also provides acute and emergency services for the population of Great Western Hospitals in Swindon and North Wiltshire (344,000).

Responsibilities:

  1. To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service.
  2. To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
  3. To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
  4. To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.
  5. To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans.
  6. To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division, or the Trust.
