About the Role

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Urological Surgeon to join its multidisciplinary team. As a Consultant Urological Surgeon, you will be responsible for providing expert care to patients with urological complaints, working independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the top tier of the 24/7 urology on-call rota, providing emergency and elective care to patients.
  • Work independently, caring for patients with urological complaints, and contributing to the development of enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
  • Participate in the audit and governance of urology services, supporting the training of junior medical staff and other staffing groups that care for patients.
  • Develop and implement clinical and quality targets, agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
  • Contribute to the Urology Cancer MDT, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides acute hospital services to a wide catchment area, encompassing parts of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales. The Trust's main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, which are located 20 minutes' drive apart.

Person Specification

  • MBBS, MbCHB, or equivalent medical qualification.
  • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent.
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register in Urology via Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
