Job Title: Automotive Depot Manager
Location: Barnsley
Working Hours: Monday to Friday
Salary: £40k - £45k depending on experience
Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced Depot Manager to lead our clients' team at their Barnsley site, providing mobile crane hire and contract lifting services. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the daily running of the depot, ensuring that KPI targets are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of mobile crane operators, slingers, lift supervisors, appointed person, fitter, and assistant manager.
- Provide first-line management of drivers and supervisors, managing performance and conduct of depot staff.
- Coordinate and plan manpower, resources, maintenance, and servicing of the fleet within the depot.
- Manage depot processes for documentation, sales/hires, and returns.
- Ensure all depot staff are trained correctly in accordance with current guidelines and Company Procedures.
- Work closely with the QSHET department to ensure Company Policies and Procedures are adhered to.
- Liaise with customers to ensure they receive a quality service, dealing with delivery issues and concerns quickly and efficiently.
- Ensure the depot/vehicles are maintained and cleaned to the standard expected by BCH, arranging/requesting repair as needed.
- Manage depot staffing levels, sickness, absence, and recruitment.
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required for the effective operation and function of the depot.
- Create daily/weekly/monthly management reports and KPIs, ensuring targets are achieved in line with strategic business needs.
- Liaise with other departments and managers to ensure efficient service is provided.
- Communicate issues affecting the performance of the depot to the Operations Director and Managing Director.
- Ensure Health & Safety compliance, including wearing PPE supplied, and promote Health & Safety awareness throughout the depot environment.
- Be aware of relevant Risk Assessments and Fire Assessments.
- Follow Company Standard Operating Procedures.
- Report operational management matters adversely affecting the protection of the company's fleet, deliveries, and customer base.
- Assist with other functions within the operation, including covering other Depot managers when absent.
- Ad hoc tasks as requested by management.
Requirements:
- Experience in distribution and logistics, preferably controlling a fleet of mobile cranes and vans.
- Proven managerial and leadership experience, preferably within the construction/transport sector.
- Excellent soft skills (Communication/Organization/etc.).
- Strong customer focus.
- Proven leadership, with a willingness to take ownership and responsibility.
