Job Overview

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals for residents, taking into account their preferences, special diets, and needs. You will work in a timely manner to ensure that meals are prepared and served efficiently.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop healthy and balanced meals in consultation with residents and staff.
  • Be aware of people's religious and cultural backgrounds and how this might impact on their dietary requirements.
  • Help prepare trollies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and ensure that all trollies are collected promptly.
  • Assist the cook in preparing meals and help with the baking of cakes for afternoon tea if necessary.
  • Ensure the kitchen is hygienically clean and the floor is mopped when necessary.
  • Load the dishwasher and/or wash-up by hand when required.
  • Ensure all washed items are clean and dry before putting them away.
  • Assist with the ordering of supplies if requested to do so.
  • Put away any supplies delivered to the Home promptly.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development through performance and development reviews and undertake any relevant training.
  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Induct new starters in accordance with We Care Group policy.
  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of those individuals you support.
  • Ensure equipment supplied is used with care, in accordance with suppliers' instructions and training.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any faults immediately.
  • Treat people with dignity.
  • Have good listening and observational skills.
  • Have some awareness of the challenges faced by people who need care and support.
