About the Role:
The Shetland Islands Council is seeking a skilled Deckhand Seafarer to join our team on Yell Based Vessels. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a unique and dynamic environment, contributing to the safety and success of our maritime operations.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Deckhand to perform a range of duties on board our vessels. As a key member of the crew, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, while also providing excellent customer service to our passengers and clients.
Main Responsibilities:
- Mooring and unmooring the vessel safely and efficiently, operating windlass, capstan, shore-ramps, and bow visors.
- Conducting lookout duties during passage, both day and night, and assisting the bridge team in their duties to prevent collisions, ensure navigation safety, and avoid pollution.
- Operating watertight closing arrangements and participating in emergency teams.
- Maintaining fire-fighting devices and life-saving equipment, and assisting in emergency situations.
- Assisting in all safety functions, including securing vehicles, cargo, and mail, sounding tanks and spaces, and other tasks that contribute to the safety and integrity of passengers, crew, and vessel.
What We Offer:
In return for your expertise and dedication, we offer a competitive salary, benefits, and a unique work-life balance. Our salary is estimated to be around £38,000-£42,000 per annum, depending on experience, and includes a Distant Islands Allowance of £2,000 per annum, unsocial allowance, and contracted overtime.
