Respiratory Medicine Consultant in a Virtual Setting

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Medicine Consultant to join our team at Heartlands & Solihull Hospital, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Our team of consultants has expertise in various areas, including Asthma, Interstitial Lung Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Lung Cancer, Pleural Disease, Intensive Care, TB, Respiratory Infection, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.



Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for clinical duties, including ward rounds, on-call commitments, virtual ward delivery, and EHRA alongside clinics in lung cancer and interstitial lung disease. The post holder will also have responsibilities across the department, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests depending on experience and service needs.

  • To provide appropriate supervision to junior doctors, ACPs, and clinical practitioners.
  • Contribution to undergraduate, post-graduate, and continuing medical education activity, including AHPs as part of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Consultants are encouraged and supported with research projects.
  • Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues' periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
  • To help the department and Trust in emergencies.
  • Appropriate evening and weekend on-call commitments.
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register for General Internal Medicine and specialty interest via (a) CCT, (b) CESR, or (c) European Community rights.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development, including CME.
