About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Quarry Manager to join our team at Tarmac Stowfield Quarry and Asphalt Plant in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing and leading our quarrying and asphalt plant operations, ensuring safety and operational standards are met, and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a highly skilled team, using KPIs to ensure business continuity and reduce risk
  • Oversee all aspects of budgetary control for quarrying operations and produce operational reports
  • Maintain and implement Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments, and training for staff
  • Ensure the safe operation of the quarry and asphalt plant, and planned preventative maintenance of equipment
  • Manage production requirements and ensure the plant meets operational and production standards
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff, and maintain a training matrix
  • Collate and report on monthly performance KPIs for the Area Operations
  • Foster a one-team approach, with clear working goals and maximum outputs

Requirements

  • Experience in quarrying operations or a similar environment
  • Good understanding of Quarry Regulations, with a Regulation 8.1(c) appointment (or 8.1(d))
  • Diploma in Quarry Technology or FdSc Extractives Technology (or similar qualification)
  • SHE NVQ Level 4 or QCF Level 6
  • Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options for transportation
  • Understanding of different methods of winning and extracting raw material
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
  • Strong drive for continuous improvement, with a focus on reducing costs and minimizing waste streams
  • Strong IT skills, including SAP (preferred) and Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multitask and manage change effectively
  • Ability to manage staff effectively and empower them to make good decisions
  • IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
