Job Title: Assistant Director- Finance

We are seeking a highly skilled and ambitious individual to join our team as Assistant Director of Finance. Reporting into the Deputy Director of Finance, the postholder will provide strategic financial management support to a number of Clinical Services Units, including being the finance lead for significant business cases and projects within Leeds and across West Yorkshire.

This role will also lead the Trust's income and contracting function. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, with experience in leading successful projects and managing finance teams. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to promote and uphold the Leeds Way values.

We welcome applicants from all sectors with the relevant skills and experience to meet the remit of the role. Knowledge of NHS finances is highly desirable, but not essential. Most importantly, you will be an individual who operates with passion and integrity, demonstrates an inclusive and collaborative leadership style, and upholds values aligned to those of our Trust.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Support and advise CSUs on strategic and operational issues.
  • Contribute to the strategic financial planning activities of the Trust and provide financial input to major capital developments.
  • Lead the business planning activities of the Trust and contribute to negotiations with the commissioners.
  • Assist the annual budget setting process and ensure budgets reflect agreed commissioner contracts.
  • Ensure that financial and budgetary information is available to all levels of the organisation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide support and training to budget managers and non-budget holders.
  • Work with the Deputy Director of Finance to develop and review financial systems and procedures.
  • Coordinate the monitoring of financial performance against plan and advise on major variances.
  • Support clinical and non-clinical areas in the preparation of business cases.
  • Manage the finance team and provide leadership and direction.
Requirements:
  • Full Professional Accountancy qualification (CCAB or CIMA qualified).
  • Post graduate qualification to Masters level or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive financial management experience at a senior management level.
  • Experience in a range of accounting areas and use of financial systems.
  • Experience of leading successful projects and managing finance teams.
  • Experience of designing and delivering finance training resources.
Person Specification:
  • Expert knowledge of accounting concepts and NHS financial regime.
  • Understanding of current NHS priorities and legislation.
  • Experience in providing financial advice to multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in supervising and leading staff.
