The University of Essex is seeking a highly skilled Research Officer to join its team in the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies. The successful candidate will have a key role in the construction of The Free Clinics Archive, contributing to the conception and preparation of exhibitions and other archive-material centred events and activities.

The post is part of a multi-strand project, FREEPSY, which aims to produce a new global figuration of psychoanalysis as a progressive discourse and practice. The Research Officer will collaborate with the PI, postdoctoral fellows, a PhD researcher, and the communication and events officer to deliver the research objectives of the project.

The ideal candidate will possess an MA in archival studies or the management of the cultural sector, with excellent research skills and experience working with psychoanalytic archives. Knowledge of all aspects of constructing and maintaining an archive is essential, as is the ability to contribute to delivering the research objectives of the project.

Requirements:

  • MA in archival studies or the management of the cultural sector

  • Knowledge of all aspects of constructing and maintaining an archive

Working Arrangements:

The post is fixed-term, part-time (7.2 hours per week) until 15 October 2026.
