Commissioning Engineer Job Overview

The National Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a skilled Commissioning Engineer to join its Engineering team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from initial specification to delivery of operational assets, while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

About the Role

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe delivery of project activities within an operational nuclear facility. Your expertise will be applied to bespoke projects with complex nuclear safety aspects, requiring innovative engineering solutions that meet high standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carry out commissioning performance and safety testing, documenting results accurately.
  • Mark-up engineering drawings to reflect 'as-built' plant conditions.
  • Document design, installation, quality performance, and safety non-conformances.
  • Provide commissioning progress reports as required.
  • Contribute to design and safety case processes (MDDR/HAZOP etc.).
  • Ensure lifetime records are correctly documented and passed to document control.
  • Suggest improvements to plant operation during commissioning.
  • Attend off-site testing at manufacturers' premises when necessary.

Essential Criteria

  • Time-served EC&I apprenticeship.
  • Minimum ONC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrable engineering experience in the nuclear industry.
  • Demonstrable commissioning experience in the nuclear industry.
  • Experience producing performance and safety test documentation.
  • Ability to fault-find on systems, plant, and equipment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safe working in a nuclear environment.
  • Ability to gain Electrical nomination for plant isolations.
  • Capacity to obtain DV-level security clearance.

Nuclear Industry Salary Range

The estimated salary for this position is £45,000-£65,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include comprehensive training, career development opportunities, and a supportive work environment.
