Our documented design management process covers all business sectors, including Multi Utility, Independent Connections, Primary Major Project Substations, and general High Voltage Contracting activities.

The Role

This Electrical Design Management Specialist will lead a multi-skilled team of engineers to deliver detailed designs for various workstream areas within our business. As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the team through development, mentoring, and day-to-day support. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of electrical engineering design and practices, with experience in 11kV through to 132kV (E)HV networks and substations, including switchgear, transformers, underground circuits, earthing, and protection.

The Key Responsibilities
  1. Enhance Current Design Procedures
  • Reduce company risk and liability via formal design validation, verification, and approval prior to and during construction.
Control Design Liabilities
  • Implement robust approval procedures to ensure all designs meet performance parameters and client expectations.
Develop the Operations-Based Design Team
  • Build a strong design capability regarding resource, training, competence, and experience.
Maintain Design Framework Continuity
  • Ensure consistency of design work for all relevant workstreams, without affecting delivery timescales and targets.
Upskill Design Engineers and Technicians
  • Progressively upskill team members to meet current and future work programme demands.
Evidence Optimised Utilisation
  • Show evidence that the team is achieving optimised utilisation and meeting customer charter targets.
Create Quality Assurance Process
  • Develop a robust quality assurance process for all relevant project, contract, or framework designs.
Talent Profile Management
  • Maintain a talent profile of all resources, assessing and actively managing high growth potential.

The ideal candidate should have a minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, and ideally be a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status. Good team working and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage a range of internal staff, partners, consultants, and contractors.
