Are you looking to take your underwriting career to the next level? We're seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team in the UK, working with professional indemnity policies and financial lines risks.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity is based within our renewals department, where you'll be working with a wide variety of professional and management risks, including cyber and technology risks. As a senior member of the team, you'll be responsible for providing an excellent underwriting service to brokers, monitoring and analysing broker activity, and identifying areas for improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of risks and underwrite large and complex renewal cases within defined underwriting authority
  • Collaborate with the Markel Claims team on complex cases to ensure the best outcomes for policyholders and Markel
  • Demonstrate and promote a thorough knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels to achieve profitability and underwriting objectives
  • Provide excellent service to our brokers, prioritising renewals and mid-term adjustments to ensure deadlines are met and maximising business development opportunities
  • Attend underwriting and broker meetings as required, providing insight into developments, trends, and feedback on market conditions
Requirements
  • Experience of financial lines underwriting, including professional liability, cyber, and/or management risks
  • Ability to review wordings, lead in the complexities of drafting clauses/endorsements, and tailored wordings
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Track record in building and developing broker relationships
  • Ability to regularly analyse competitors' products, capabilities, and appetite and share within the team
  • Proven ability to renew business while maintaining underwriting discipline
  • ACII and/or similar qualification preferred
