Role Overview
To oversee all elements of the nursery kitchen, ensuring compliance with health regulations and delivering high-quality meals.
To design, prepare, and serve a nutritious and balanced diet tailored for the children.
To guarantee that all food safety protocols and kitchen responsibilities align with environmental health standards.
Engaging with children through cooking and food-related activities.Key Responsibilities
- Uphold exceptional standards of personal hygiene and appearance.
- Understand and adhere to nursery policies and procedures.
- Manage inventory and order supplies within the allocated budget for the upcoming week's menu, ensuring proper delivery and storage conditions; maintain correct temperature and stock rotation.
- Coordinate the preparation and serving of meals and snacks for all children, ensuring a diverse and appealing menu that accommodates various allergies, dietary needs, and cultural preferences.
- Be knowledgeable about Special Dietary Needs, including food allergies, intolerances, and cultural or religious dietary requirements, as outlined in the kitchen's dietary needs documentation.
- Ensure that all children with specific dietary requirements receive appropriate meals, clearly labeled to avoid confusion.
- Adhere to standard food safety practices, including temperature monitoring and cross-contamination prevention, with daily documentation.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and hygiene at all times, following a cleaning schedule for all kitchen equipment, utensils, surfaces, and storage areas.
- Conduct kitchen risk assessments and maintain daily and weekly records and documentation.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures and complete necessary paperwork in case of incidents.
- Ensure that all security measures are in place and that unauthorized access is prevented, reporting any issues to the manager or deputy.
- Collaborate with the Nursery Manager to take specific responsibility for Health and Safety in accordance with the company's Health and Safety guidelines.
- Ensure that hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen meet the highest standards as per Environmental Health regulations.
- Possess thorough knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, fire safety regulations, and all relevant policies, providing training and support to ensure compliance.
- Train cover staff in kitchen procedures to maintain high standards during absences.
- Stay informed about food-related issues affecting the catering sector, ensuring the nursery adheres to current legislation and best practices.
- Participate actively in performance evaluations, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
