London, Greater London, United Kingdom The Financial Times Full time
About FT FLIC

The Financial Times' Financial Literacy and Inclusion Campaign (FLIC) is a fast-expanding financial literacy charity promoting education where it's needed most. Our mission is to make a significant, sustainable societal impact by tackling the global scandal of financial illiteracy.

We've developed a comprehensive spiral financial literacy curriculum for secondary schools catering to diverse learning styles and abilities, featuring input from FT journalists, teachers, and beneficiaries. This includes discussion, reflection, and dynamic videos co-created with selected influencers, focusing on relevant 'just in time' information, such as helping young people navigate their first payslips when they become legally able to work.

Our adult learning program offers bespoke money management tools addressing modern ways of working, moving away from 'one man, one salary' and helping adults manage variable incomes and plan for lean periods. This project addresses new realities of working, providing valuable skills and knowledge for disenfranchised communities.

About FT FLIC's Team

We have a small yet highly effective team of 7 staff members, bringing diverse skill-sets spanning education, outreach, fundraising, video, design, and operations. Two are qualified teachers who have taught in disadvantaged communities, and many have previously worked at large national charities. We combine our expertise with world-leading knowledge from FT journalists and editors to best serve our target communities.

This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills to engage and align diverse stakeholders with our vision, mission, and work. You'll foster collaboration among board members, staff, educators, volunteers, young people, and communities to shape FLIC's output and gain commitment. Your dedication will be essential in upholding the highest quality standards in challenging situations.

With an estimated salary of £80,000, this full-time position offers flexible hours, core hours between 10am to 4pm, and hybrid working arrangements with three days per week in Central London and remote working. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, chaired by Financial Times Deputy Editor, you'll contribute actively to formal and informal knowledge-sharing networks, fostering a robust network of supporters, advisors, volunteers, and peers.

About the Role
  • Manage strategic consistency, communicating concise milestones and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for adult and young person's learning streams, ensuring adherence to these and effective resource allocation towards key priorities.
  • Foster efforts with the board, staff, educators, volunteers, young people, and communities to contribute expertise, insights, and innovative ideas shaping FLIC's output and gaining commitment.
  • Prioritise beneficiary input and feedback.
  • Uphold and cultivate an environment fostering ongoing learning and innovation, encouraging sharing perspectives and ideas balanced with high staff ownership and accountability.

Key requirements include extensive experience in a strategic-level role within a social-purpose organisation, growing and evaluating organisational impact while managing a high-performing team with integrity and fairness. Fundraising experience is also essential, along with in-depth understanding of challenges in trusts, foundations, and corporate partnerships. Knowledge of the problem and people addressed by FLIC is crucial, as well as understanding opportunities, challenges, and good practices involved in promoting diversity and inclusion.

About FT FLIC's Location

FT FLIC benefits from a modern office in the City, with a beautiful rooftop garden and subsidised canteen. A generous double-matched pension scheme is available, and the charity participates in FT group social functions.
