Job Summary

As a Senior Clinical Nurse Lead at NHS Blood and Transplant, you will be responsible for leading and motivating a team of Healthcare Assistants and Donor Care Supervisors to provide high-quality personal care. You will use your clinical judgment to make decisions about donor suitability, ensuring compliance with regulatory and governance requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Take clinical responsibility for ensuring the safe assessment and blood donation of donors.
  • Be accountable for the safe running of blood donation sessions.
  • Ensure an excellent donor experience.
  • Maintain the competency and skills of your team and yourself.
  • Adapt communication styles for difficult conversations.
  • Maintain professional development to improve practice.

Working Hours

On a shift basis, with normal hours being 9 days per fortnight. Early shifts start at 07:45 and finish at 16:50, while late shifts start at 11:00 and finish at 20:05, with 8.33-hour days. Weekend and bank holiday working is required, with the possibility of long hours, but no more than five days a week.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and understand best practice principles to deliver high-quality care.
  • Have experience supporting the professional development of others.
  • Have an understanding of clinical audit and research.
  • Have experience supporting improvements and change in practice.
  • Have an awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management.
  • Have experience working with Information Technology, such as hand-held devices and Microsoft Office packages.

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration as Registered Nurse – Adult.
