Strategic Financial Coordinator

We are excited to partner with The Schools of King Edwards VI in Birmingham, a pioneering charitable organisation that has been driving excellence in education across the city since 1552. As a Strategic Financial Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial operations of this esteemed institution.
The successful candidate will lead the delivery of the Academy Trust's financial accounting processes and reporting, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements. This includes overseeing transactional services, managing sales, purchase, and general ledgers, and providing support to the Head of Finance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading all transactional services for the Academy Trust, implementing clear policies, processes, and controls
- Responsibility for the sales, purchase, and general ledgers for the Trust
- Managing Audit enquiries relating to purchase and sales ledger
- Providing high-quality financial reports to internal and external stakeholders
- Oversight of accounting processes for the Academy Trust balance sheet, including bank and other balance sheet reconciliations
- Quarterly production of the Academy Trust VAT returns and key point of contact for queries and relationship with HMRC
- Lead on gift aid claims to HMRC
- Management of finance systems, IRIS (PS) Financials and IMP Software
- Support with system improvement projects, including all systems used by the Academy Trust Finance Team
- Assisting the Academy Trust Head of Finance in preparing and submitting statutory financial statements
In addition to these responsibilities, the post holder will:
- Line manage the Purchase Ledger Supervisor and support the wider Purchase Ledger team
- Ensure school-based Finance Officers follow Trust policies and processes
- Actively seek out and drive continuous improvement within the Finance team and across the wider Academy Trust
The ideal candidate will possess strong numerical, analytical, and accounting skills, as well as excellent communication skills. AAT qualified or equivalent experience is required, along with at least 3 years of experience working in a finance office environment or similar role. Experience of using computerised accounting packages, particularly PS Financials, would be an advantage.
This role offers a competitive salary of £42,000 - £47,000 per annum, plus a range of benefits, including:
