Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (ASD Specialist)

GSL Education - Newcastle is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant (ASD Specialist) to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a dynamic school setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support to students with ASD across various age groups, both 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Assist the class teacher with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Develop learning materials and adapt lesson plans to suit the needs of ASD learners.
  • Monitor and report on students' progress, working closely with SENCOs and external specialists.
  • Manage challenging behaviours effectively, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure continuity of care and education for ASD students.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people with ASD in an educational or care setting.
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication aids is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of autism and the ability to implement strategies that support learning and behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with learners who may have complex needs.
