Senior Transport Planner

General Haulage

Skelmersdale

GBP34,000 - GBP38,000 (flexible depending on experience)

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join our team at supplychainonline.co - Jobboard. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transport route planning and a proven track record of working in a general haulage operation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing driver routes and planning to maximize efficiency, keeping all customers informed of failed services or significant delays, and providing the communication link between customers and drivers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review driver routes and plan to maximize efficiency
  • Keep all customers informed of all failed services or significant delays
  • Provide the communication link between customers and drivers
  • Supervise and manage driver workloads
  • Manage driver's daily activities in line with the Working Time Directive and Driving hours
  • Plan vehicles around requests, challenges, and changes
  • Monitor customer requests, allocate jobs, and issue instructions
  • Keep up to date with transport issues and deal with changes to the day's schedules
  • Communicate fleet availability and issues to the whole team
  • Liaise with drivers and colleagues to ensure on-time deliveries
  • Pre-brief and de-brief drivers on their daily runs throughout the day
  • Troubleshoot critical transport-related issues as they arise in a live environment

Requirements:

  • Transport route planning experience
  • Previous experience of working in a general haulage operation
  • Experience of working within a busy transport office
  • Dynamic approach to solve resource and planning resolution/modifications
  • ICT literate
  • Basic understanding of Large Goods Vehicles (weights, dimensions, and terminology)
  • Good geographic knowledge
  • Proactive approach to continual professional development
  • Excellent team player, able to work on own initiative and make decisions
  • Effective communicator
  • Positive attitude towards customer service and continuous improvement
  • Ability to question, challenge, and improve upon existing processes
