We are seeking a skilled Workshop Engineer to join our team at SMT GB. As a key member of our workshop team, you will be responsible for the service and repair of machinery to the highest standards, ensuring a first-class service to both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Service and repair Volvo construction equipment and miscellaneous equipment as required.
  • Carry out all work in line with quotations and time guides, highlighting to management where additional work may be required upon strip-down of components.
  • Maintain a sufficient personal toolkit to enable effective job completion.
  • Ensure software updates are installed as new versions are released.
  • Accurately complete paperwork, including oil sample reports and service inspection reports.
  • Complete electronic time registration inputs in real-time, providing comprehensive details of the work undertaken.
  • Order parts for work as necessary and return parts in a clean condition at job completion.
  • Be flexible to work overtime as and when required.
  • Attend relevant product or systems training courses to ensure high standards of competence required to efficiently complete workshop duties.
  • Work in accordance with SMT GB ISO standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental care.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics.
  • Relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy construction plant.
  • Proven technical competence on diesel engines, transmissions, drive lines, hydraulics, and electronics.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with colleagues, management, and customers.
  • Works with a cost-conscious mindset to ensure maximum profitability.
  • Problem-solving ability and appropriate diagnostic skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • High standards and attention to detail.
  • Conscientious in all aspects of the job.
  • Highly responsible, reliable, honest, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to understand technical literature, including service bulletins and parts books.
Desirable
