Health Play Specialist

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Play Specialist to join our Therapeutic and Specialised Play Service at the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing an accessible and inclusive service to meet the needs of patients accessing the Therapeutic and Specialised Play Service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess patient need and provide appropriate prioritization of therapeutic play preparation, distraction, and emotional support for babies, children, and young people.
- Provide leadership, share good practice, developmental opportunities, and act as a role model for junior staff.
- Work closely with the Play Services Manager and deputise in their absence.
- Support the standard operation of the Play Service and optimize care pathways and improvement of patient experience.
- Directly support, manage, and delegate referrals as appropriate for patients with complex presentations and/or those who struggle to cope with their hospital admission/procedures.

Requirements
- HPSET Qualified and registered with 2 years' experience working in an Acute Hospital setting or community setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of the SoHPS Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Standards.
- Substantial post-qualifying experience of working with babies, children, and young people in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to support the development of others and demonstrate sensitivity towards colleagues.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, utilising time management and organisation skills.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- NVQ, CACHE, NNEB (Level 3) in Child Care/Play Work or Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce or Early Childhood Studies (BA).
- Basic Secondary Education up to 5 GCSE level or beyond, including English and Math's (GCSE Grade A* - C).
- Management and Leadership qualification/training/modules.
- Mentoring/coaching training.
- Communication training, MAKATON, BSL, SIGN ALONG, Touch cues, etc.
Language Skills
Welsh Language Skills are desirable, levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
