Construction Cost Manager

As a Quantity Surveyor at Mace, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the cost and risk management of construction projects, maximizing value for our clients while meeting statutory building regulations and quality standards. You will work closely with our team to establish client requirements, prepare and analyze project costings, and negotiate contracts and work schedules.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in establishing client requirements and undertaking feasibility studies to ensure project proposals meet client needs.
- Preparing and analyzing project costings for tenders, including materials, quantities, labor, and time.
- Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or client.
- Negotiating contracts and work schedules.
- Allocating work to subcontractors and overseeing their work throughout the construction process.
- Performing risk, value management, and cost control during construction.
- Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
- Advising on procurement strategy and identifying, analyzing, and developing responses to commercial risks.
- Providing advice on contractual claims and disputes.
- Analyzing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports.
- Valuing completed work, overseeing bills, and arranging payments.
- Maintaining awareness of current building contracts and understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear reports and convey complex information in a simple way to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop relationships, with numerical and data analysis skills.
- A creative and innovative approach to problem-solving, with IT skills and the ability to learn sophisticated design and costing IT packages.
- Teamwork skills, with the ability to motivate and lead teams on site.
- Project management skills, with resilience, determination, and the ability to work well under pressure.
- Good commercial awareness, with a practical, logical, and methodical approach to work.
- Attention to detail, with a deep understanding of building and construction technology, processes, materials, business, and legal matters.
