Mechanical Design Specialist

About the Role
STR Group Limited is seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Designer to join our Engineering team. This pivotal role involves designing and delivering projects and modifications to meet the evolving needs of our business and site operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and define project scopes, ensuring seamless integration with existing processes.
- Provide comprehensive mechanical and maintenance design services, including drawing and documentation preparation, to support plant performance enhancement.
- Conduct design calculations and ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and EHS requirements, guaranteeing a safe working environment.
- Specify and procure engineering items for bespoke requests, managing purchasing and procurement to achieve cost and time targets.
- Plan, organise, and support internal and external technicians during installation and commissioning, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
Scope of Work:
- Contribute to design/project reviews, providing expert insights and recommendations to drive project success.
- Obtain quotations, place orders, and liaise with suppliers to acquire technical data and support, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials.
- Host supplier visits and collaborate with production, maintenance, and support departments to meet design requirements, promoting cross-functional teamwork.
- Develop bespoke designs to enhance plant performance, leveraging expertise in CAD packages and preparing functional design specifications.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Essential:
- HNC in Mechanical Design or equivalent, demonstrating a solid foundation in mechanical design principles.
- Significant practical design experience in a process or manufacturing environment, showcasing expertise in CAD software and design specification preparation.
- Familiarity with PED/PSSR and piping systems, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
- Experience using CAD packages and preparing functional design specifications, highlighting proficiency in design software and documentation.
- Desirable:
- NEBOSH certification, indicating a commitment to health and safety best practices.
Personal Skills and Competencies:
- Analytical thinking, initiative, and results orientation, driving innovative solutions and achieving project goals.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, managing multiple tasks and deadlines with ease.
