Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom Protocol Education Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our SEMH school team in West Yorkshire. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs to thrive in a learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs, implementing behaviour management strategies and promoting self-discipline and resilience.
  • Act as a positive role model, fostering a safe and structured environment for students to learn and grow.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure each child receives the best possible support.
  • Assist in safeguarding, prioritizing students' physical and emotional well-being.
Why Your Background is Ideal

Ex-military and police personnel often excel in roles within SEMH settings due to their strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Your experience handling challenging situations, managing conflict, and fostering teamwork can translate perfectly into helping students who may struggle with authority, routine, or emotional regulation.

Requirements
  • A passion for working with young people and making a positive impact on their lives.
  • A background in the Armed Forces, Police, or a similar structured, discipline-based environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A willingness to learn about and engage with SEMH-specific approaches and strategies.
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals (desirable, but not essential).
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work, with a strong sense of responsibility.
Benefits
  • A rewarding career helping students achieve their potential.
  • Comprehensive training in SEMH and education support.
  • A supportive team environment with opportunities for growth and professional development.
  • The chance to use your unique skill set to make a lasting impact.
