Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Outreach Officer to join our team at Swindon Borough Council. As a key member of our Outreach team, you will play a vital role in supporting residents who are struggling to manage their financial obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach and telephone appointments with residents to provide assistance with council tax liabilities and supporting administration.
  • Support drop-in incentives to encourage wider identification of support services available.
  • Identify and trial techniques to encourage customer engagement.
  • Ensure residents are aware of all support they are entitled to.
  • Signpost and coordinate with internal and external support agencies.
  • Deliver accurate, timely, and comprehensive MI data.
  • Complete applications and changes related to Housing and Council Tax benefit claims.
  • Work with Citizens Advice and other support agencies to ensure vulnerable customers receive the support they need.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly employee review meetings.
  • Hand-deliver notification of recovery intentions and outcomes to members of the public and businesses.
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety policy at all times.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures applicable to this role.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent with a minimum of 5 grades A-C or levels 9-4, including English and Maths.
  • Experience in meeting targets and developing own performance.
  • Good use of various IT systems and applications, including Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Good organisation and planning skills.
  • Previous experience providing good customer service and problem-solving.
  • Experience working as part of a team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations.
