We are currently seeking an experienced Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter to join our team based out of our Whitwood Contracting Plant in Castleford, near Leeds, covering the Yorkshire region. Note that during training, this role will be based out of our Skipton workshop in North Yorkshire. This position forms part of our 24/7 engineering function, maintaining plant equipment primarily on motorways and local authority roads in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Respond to plant breakdowns, ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution.
  2. Undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment.
  3. Owning small-scale projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive manner.
  4. Taking a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities and coordinating with contractors and suppliers when they are on site.
  5. Participating in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
  6. Contributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through your own observations and experience.
  7. Working with risk assessments and method statements, and contributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures.
  8. Maintaining and promoting Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.
  9. Challenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting them through company procedures.
  10. Utilizing the computerized maintenance management system and recording all work, including fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs carried out.
Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work with minimal supervision. You should also demonstrate proven experience working within an industrial, factory, or similar environment as a mobile fitter.

Suitable candidates will have:

  • Recognized apprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard).
  • ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens.
  • Experience of welding and fabricating to a good standard and able to remove and fit bearings.
  • Fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action.
  • Capability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment.
  • Good IT skills - capable of using PCs, common applications, and company systems.
  • Competence in the use of application-based inspection schemes.
  • Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly.
  • Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices.
  • Flexibility to attend plant-specific training courses and workshops, as well as a positive approach to travel across the Yorkshire region.
  • Suitable candidates for this role will possess CPC or be willing to train.
