Parasitology Research Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced researcher to lead and undertake world-class research in the area of Parasitology at Queen\u0027s University Belfast.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent productivity in the modelling and bioinformatics areas as they pertain to parasitology, including systems biology/informatics approaches to enhance understanding of parasite biology, evolution or parasite-host interplay, and modelling approaches to inform human and/or animal parasite infections in a one health context.

The appointee will have access to cutting-edge infrastructure in the areas of molecular, genomic, proteomic and metabolomics to underpin their research.

In line with our ambitious strategy, the successful candidate will further enhance our excellence, enterprise and reputation and to underpin our strategic commitment to interlinking teaching and research in the area of Parasitology.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and lead independent, competitively funded research programmes in their field of expertise and contribute to teaching a variety of aspects of the curriculum.

The School and Institute are internationally recognised for our world-leading research and are number 1 in the UK for research excellence in the UK REF 2021 (UoA 6).

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Honours degree or equivalent in Parasitology or an area relevant to the job purpose.
  • PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose
  • Completion of a PGCHET (or equivalent) or HEA membership
  • Research experience in the field of Parasitology, which complements the research priorities of the School and the Institute for Global Food Security.
  • Record of high-quality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals.
  • Record of successfully obtaining significant research funding including the RCUK and other resources to underpin research, as appropriate to the discipline, through competitive national or international peer-reviewed processes as Principal Investigator.
  • Evidence of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.
