Electrical Design Engineer

12 Month Contract

Manchester (with travel)

Excellent Rate

The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design relocation of several electrical installations between South Coast sites (x2) and Central Scotland.

Main Duties

Site Surveys
  1. Attend site (South Coast sites (x2)) and assess electrical requirements of multiple electrical assets within several areas of the current installation.
  2. Review layouts and design of new location and determine power requirements and electrical installation routing.
  3. Review layouts on site at the new installation.
  4. Provide handovers of electrical installation designs to the installation team on site (Central Scotland).
Design
  1. Use current standards (BS 7671 18th Edition) to produce cable schedules and cable routing layouts for the new site using an electrical design package.
  2. Perform calculations for cable sizing and derating factors as well as cable management and bend radius calculations.
  3. Produce in-depth bills of materials (BoM).
Project & Production Controls
  1. Specify all related electrical design components within the project.
  2. Liaise and communicate with Sub-Contractors or Suppliers to ensure services and supplied components meet project requirements.
  3. Attend project and progress reviews to identify pertinent issues and required actions.
  4. Provide a technical level of supervision to the installation staff engaged in the build.
  5. Work within the budgetary and programme requirements of the project.
  6. Achieve the technical & commercial objectives of the contract, including budget and delivery targets.
General
  1. Devote the necessary time and attention to satisfactorily undertake the duties of an Electrical Design Engineer.
  2. Work in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy and statutory regulations.
  3. Work in accordance with the Company Quality Assurance System and Company Procedures.

  1. An experienced professional and proactive individual.
  2. Capable of being a strong and effective member of the design team.
  3. Effective communication with all internal stakeholders and external customers and suppliers.
  4. Ability to work independently and prioritise work based on company needs.
  5. Ability to work on several issues and projects simultaneously.
  6. Willingness to work at customer sites within the UK and overseas.

Skills and Experience

  1. Use of Electrical CAD packages desirable but training can be provided.
  2. BS 7671 (18th Edition) for electrical installations.
  3. Knowledge of low voltage 3 phase systems.
  4. Experience of electrical installations, preferably in an industrial setting.
  5. Full drivers license and ability to travel.
  6. 5 years plus experience of working on electrical systems or design.

  1. Higher education in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or relevant experience.

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at S & D Trade Recruitment Ltd. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing the relocation of electrical installations between South Coast sites and Central Scotland.

Main Responsibilities

The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for conducting site surveys to assess electrical requirements, reviewing layouts and designs, and determining power requirements and electrical installation routing.

They will also be responsible for producing cable schedules and cable routing layouts using an electrical design package, performing calculations for cable sizing and derating factors, and producing in-depth bills of materials.

Project and Production Controls

The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for specifying all related electrical design components within the project, liaising with Sub-Contractors or Suppliers to ensure services and supplied components meet project requirements, and attending project and progress reviews to identify pertinent issues and required actions.

They will also be responsible for providing a technical level of supervision to the installation staff engaged in the build, working within the budgetary and programme requirements of the project, and achieving the technical & commercial objectives of the contract.
