About the Position:

We invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science position within the School of Education at Norfolk State University. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics as well as clinical experience in rehabilitative settings.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach classes within the undergraduate Kinesiotherapy (KIN), Health Fitness Instructor (HFI), and Health Wellness Rehabilitation (HWR) concentrations of the Exercise Science degree.
  • Assist with clinical supervision of Exercise Science/Kinesiotherapy majors.
  • Collaborate with department faculty to update and develop CAAHEP certification reports for accrediting bodies.
  • Advise and mentor students, hold office hours, engage in program development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning.
  • Conduct scholarly research, publish in respected refereed scholarly journals, and participate in other scholarly activities to secure external funding.

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. (ABD considered) in a related field such as Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Human Movement Sciences, or Rehabilitative Sciences from an accredited program.
  • Expertise in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics.
  • Clinical experience in rehabilitative settings as a Kinesiotherapist, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, or Exercise Physiologist.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed and/or certified professionals in rehabilitation settings.
  • Registered Kinesiotherapist (RKT) certification and knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards and procedures.
  • Experience with short-term and long-term rehabilitative exercise programs for people transitioning out of hospital-based treatment.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 per year
