About the Role
NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist Specialist to join our team in the National Bacteriology Laboratory. As a key member of our scientific and clinical team, you will play a vital role in saving and improving patients' lives.
Main Responsibilities
- Perform, analyze, record, and interpret complex bacteriological investigations related to blood and tissue products.
- Support and train new and less experienced staff in bacteriological laboratory techniques.
- Handle blood and tissue samples and operate a range of laboratory analyzers and equipment.
- Provide specialist bacteriological advice to service users and deal with queries from other departments, medical staff, or visitors.
- Participate in rotational Saturday working.
Requirements
- Broad knowledge and experience in bacteriology and bacterial identification gained through previous experience as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Experience in specialized manual and automated bacteriological laboratory techniques using complex equipment.
- Ability to prioritize and issue work to other staff and monitor progress to ensure deadlines are met.
- Understanding of UKAS, GMP, Good Laboratory Practice, and UK Blood Transfusion Service.
- Experience in training and mentoring staff.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Science graduate with relevant postgraduate training in bacteriology and bacterial identification.
- Evidence of continuous learning and professional development.
- Willingness to undertake further training and development relevant to the post and work of the laboratory.
