About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Editor to lead our video commissioning efforts. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team and play a key role in shaping the future of The Sun's video strategy.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commissioning video content, with a keen eye for creative and engaging storytelling. They will be responsible for driving our video output, ensuring that our content aligns with traffic goals and revenue-generating platforms such as YouTube, our own site, and other social channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commission and curate original and creative video content for showbiz, ensuring it aligns with audience interests and traffic-driving objectives.
  • Use data-driven insights to inform commissioning decisions, focusing on creating high-performing content optimised for page views and video plays across platforms such as YouTube, the website, and social media.
  • Understand what captures attention in the fast-paced digital environment and commission content that drives conversations, shares, and engagement across multiple channels.
  • Collaborate closely with showbiz newsroom reporters, producers, and editors to turn breaking news, trending topics, and sports events into compelling video content that resonates with online audiences.
  • Analyse data to ensure all video content is tailored for various platforms, optimising for different algorithms, audience behaviours, and content formats across YouTube, social media, and the website.
  • Oversee SEO best practices for video content, including the creation of titles, descriptions, and tags that will boost discoverability and ranking on search engines and video platforms.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A deep understanding of the showbiz digital media landscape and the ability to drive traffic through video content.
  • Experience in commissioning video in a large, fast-paced showbiz newsroom, with a proven track record of balancing breaking news with evergreen content.
  • A solid understanding of journalistic practices, the latest trends in news and sports coverage, and how to turn them into compelling visual stories that resonate with digital audiences.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills, with a focus on increasing video views and driving audience growth through strategic commissioning.
  • Cross-platform expertise, with the ability to tailor content for specific platforms and optimise it for maximum impact.
  • A creative and fast-paced approach, with the ability to capitalise on breaking news or trending sports events to create impactful video content.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to work closely with journalists, producers, and technical teams to ensure a seamless video production process from concept to execution.
