Job Overview

Austin Fraser is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Consultant to join their team in Northwich. This exciting opportunity will involve undertaking geo-environmental and geotechnical investigations and assessments for a range of clients.

About the Role

As an Environmental Consultant, you will work closely with experienced professionals to design and deliver geo-environmental and geotechnical consultancy services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Becoming familiar with relevant standards, guidance, and legislative background to the geo-environmental and geotechnical industry.
  • Supervising ground investigations involving various techniques, managing subcontractors, logging and sampling soil and rock to BS5930, monitoring gas and groundwater, undertaking in-situ tests, validation works, etc.
  • Scheduling chemical and geotechnical laboratory testing.
  • Producing drawings (including in CAD).
  • Writing desk-based Phase I geo-environmental assessment reports and Coal Mining Risk Assessments (CMRAs).
  • Writing Interpretive reports (Phase II geo-environmental assessment, qualitative and generic quantitative risk assessment, ground gas assessment, geotechnical assessment).
  • Communicating with project managers over requirements, including preparing invoice breakdowns on completion of works.
  • Liaising with sub-contractors and clients to assist in the delivery of projects.
  • Helping prepare proposals for new work.
  • Complying with internal policies, procedures, and ISO standards.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Undergraduate Degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant subject (geology, environmental science, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, physical geography, etc).
  • Postgraduate Degree or Masters in a relevant subject (desirable, not essential).
  • Good IT skills and comfortable with MS Office.
  • A Full UK driving license (manual transmission).
  • Good problem-solving/contingency planning skills with the ability to adapt, finding quick, innovative, and practical solutions.
  • A strong work ethic, able to work effectively either alone or as part of a small team.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of £45,000 per annum, plus benefits including:

  • Twice a year reviews/appraisals with salary reviews as you become more experienced.
  • 23 days paid annual leave, plus bank holidays (3 days reserved over Christmas shutdown). Holidays increase with time spent at the company/with promotions.
  • Every second Friday off work (2FF scheme, opt-out available) giving an extra circa 26 days off per year on top of paid annual leave.
