Senior Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with NHS experience to join our team at The Christie NHS FT. As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality and person-centred interventions for our patients with complex physical, psychosocial, and cognitive problems.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations.
- Work collaboratively with the senior physiotherapists in delivering a high-quality efficient service to patients.
- Undertake treatment planning and implementation of agreed goal-orientated interventions with patients/carers.
- Accept clinical responsibility for those patients referred to the Occupational Therapy service.
- Monitor, evaluate, and modify Occupational Therapy treatment plans in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of interventions.
- Liaise effectively, as appropriate, with other National Health, Social Services, private, and voluntary agencies to ensure the safety of patients whilst undergoing treatment.
- Be fully aware of and comply with the rules of professional conduct as set by The College of Occupational Therapists and Health & Care Professional Council.
- Work within the guidelines of policies and procedures and standards set by The Christie Hospital NHS Trust.
- Participate in an ongoing evaluation of the Inpatient Occupational Therapy Service and to demonstrate the role and contribution it offers to cancer care.
- Ensure the health and safety of staff and patients and to report any areas of potential risk to the Senior Occupational Therapist or Divisional Manager.
- Essential qualifications: Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy, HCPC Registration.
- Desirable qualifications: Post registration clinical educators' certificate, Postgraduate study, Member of The Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT), RCOT SS Membership (Major Health Conditions).
- Essential experience: NHS experience, Previous post registration experience, Evidence of postgraduate training appropriate to be able to meet the knowledge and skills outlined in the job description.
- Desirable experience: Experience of working in oncology and/or with those with a palliative diagnosis, Experience of assessing and treating patients with neurological conditions, Previous experience in clinical effectiveness and audit projects.
- Essential skills: Evidence of good organisational and time management skills, Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Advanced clinical reasoning and analytical skills, Ability to manage own complex caseload.
- Desirable skills: Counselling skills, Presenting skills.
- Essential knowledge: To be able to demonstrate awareness of government drivers within oncology and palliative care, Knowledge of the Occupational Therapy process & models of practice, A working knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
